Welcome to the Volunteer Centre Western Isles website, your guide to volunteering opportunities and other Volunteer Centre services available in the Western Isles.
Whether you wish to volunteer yourself or are part of an organisation wishing to recruit volunteers you can find the information you need to get started right here.
The Western Isles or Outer Hebrides, (officially known for local government purposes by the Gaelic name, Na h-Eileanan Siar) comprise an island chain off the north west coast of Scotland.
The island chain forms part of the Hebrides, separated from the Scottish mainland and from the Inner Hebrides by the stormy waters of the Minch, the Little Minch and the Sea of the Hebrides.
The Scottish Household survey 2010 showed that 57% of those surveyed volunteered in the last 12 months, this is almost double the Scottish average from the same survey. It is expected that this figure would be higher if all those volunteering recognised it as volunteering. The islands have a high level of community involvement, which in some cases is well above the national average.
Volunteer Awards 2016
We would like to thank everyone for contributing to the success of our 2016 Volunteer Awards, which were held in Stornoway Town Hall on Thursday 2nd June.
We will be posting photos from the Awards along with a list of nominees and winners and please visit our Facebook page for more information.
We would like to congratulate everyone who was nominated along with the Award winners; it was truly amazing to see the breadth of volunteering that takes places across our islands.
