The Knit ‘n’ Chat group meets once a week on a Thursday at lunchtime. This term we are knitting Poppies to attach to the fence in our Sensory Garden. We would like to knit 201 to represent those lost in the Iolaire Disaster 100 years ago.
However, we are struggling to meet this target and wondered if anyone out there could knit a poppy or two to help us?
Our target date is Thursday 20th December and any poppies can be handed into the school office.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
This is the pattern we are using-
Knitted Poppies
Red double knitting wool
Black double knitting wool
Size 9 or 3 1/4 knitting needles
Cast on 80 stitches
Row 1 Knit
Row 2 Knit
Row 3 Knit 2 together along the row until 40 stitches.
Repeat these 3 rows until 5 stitches remain.
Cut wool and using a sewing needle thread wool through loop and pull together, stitch to form flower.
Knit the centre in black wool.
Cast on 14 stitches
Row 1 knit
Row 2 knit
Row 3 knit 2 together – 7 stitches.

Today saw another of the planned year long Intergenerational visits by Stornoway Primary P4 class to the Lewis Retirement Centre Thursday Lunch Club.

This was the 3rd of the visits and the pupils entertained the service users by singing their Christmas songs followed by chatting about their Christmas plans. It was thoroughly enjoyed by the children and was a great festive start to the day for the Thursday Lunch Club before their lovely Christmas dinner prepared by Donald and his team of volunteers.

One young pupil speaking to a lady said how her family were heading up to Wick for the festive season only to discover that the lady had left Wick 70 years ago. This conversation will be continued in January when the pupils plan an interactive activity with the group

And what fun was had by all! The children sang and danced their very seasonal repertoire for the Lunch Club members and visitors before joining in the chatter. We love having all the children in, it brings a wonderful joyfulness to both the children and our members. Having said that, the Cooking Crew loved it too ! Bring on the next visit 😀
