SENIOR VOLUNTEERING

The Volunteer Centre Western Isles is currently working with R.S.V.P. (Retired and Senior Volunteers Programme) to promote volunteering by the over 50's in the Western isles.

This began with the promotion of the RSVP Trauma Bears knitting Project as part of Make a Difference Day in 2006. Volunteers of all ages were involved; some were new to knitting, others thought it had been so long since they last knitted anything that they might need a “trauma bear” themselves. Fortunately this was not the case. The day was so successful that volunteers in Barra decided to extend Make a Difference Day and do it again every Saturday in November.

RSVP are also looking for a volunteer co-ordinator for their schools volunteer programme. For further information please contact us.

Register as a volunteer with RSVP and recieve these benefits:

  • Insurance cover for your volunteering
  • Newsletters
  • Information on other RSVP volunteering projects you may be interested in.

Each of the Trauma teddies will eventually be given out by the emergency services to someone in a traumatic situation as part of the RSVP knitting project.

This summer the Volunteer Centre teamed up with RSVP again this time to promote the knitting of bobble hats for smoothie bottles.
